What is FundingChances
FundingChances allows friends and family to raise money directly for loved ones when they need it most. The free online fundraising pages can be set up in minutes to be instantly shared, creating a viral community of support.
Our Story
Our venture started a week before Christmas, 2011 when a fire destroyed our family’s rental home and everything we owned. As the fire burned, the last thing on our minds was our financial situation. After all, we had two young kids to keep safe.
After our 3:00 trip to the Drug Store, we realized for the first time that everything we needed was gone. Impossible, I thought. With no insurance, it was sad how desperately we needed funds just to feed and clothe our two young children.
Although we were hesitant, we were given a second chance when my brother set up an online fundraising page for family and friends to donate to our cause. He started raising money immediately. We could not believe how successful the fundraising was. Within hours we were up too $2000, within days $10,000 and after 2 weeks we raised over $23,000!!
Over 30,000 people viewed and shared our story. Almost instantly we were on our way back to rebuilding our lives. We had a roof over our heads and more support than we ever expected.
"When your world falls apart, you are not always capable of thinking of the necessary things that need to be done. A normal life doesn’t exist when you are experiencing such trauma. This is when I realized, I needed to give back to all of you."
I promised myself we would give back when everything was said and done. I began searching for families who were experiencing trauma locally. I contacted them, and offered my help. I spent hours upon hours contacting local businesses seeking help, donations, food, shelter, and free storage.
Everything we went through, we wanted to make it that much easier for them. At the end of the day, it was the donations that we pulled together that helped these misfortunate families through the tough times.
I felt incredibly blessed to hear the sound in their voice when I offered my help for nothing in return. It truly meant the world to me.
With so many people wanting to help, there was no common ground available for people to donate specifically to families in need. I am very blessed to have a brother who owns a multimedia company. With his best friend from kindergarten, we created the website that you are viewing right now.
We were so inspired to give families like us a second chance that we saved our money over the next few months to make this website! We believe in Karma, and truly want to pay it forward. We envision a world where everyone can instantly fundraise online. We want a site dedicated solely to the thousands of families who go through devastating situations just like ours.
We decided to make the theme for this website; "Second Chances." We are extremely passionate about second chances and we are thankful you are too. We know that everyone deserves one.
FundingChances.com was born 10/31/2012!
(Addendum) 12/05/2012
Unfortunately, we intended this site to be 100% fee free(excluding the Paypal fee), but as the site became functional we learned that the blueprint we used to create the site would not allow for this to function properly. This was something that we did not foresee and are currently addressing it. Until then, we have lowered the fee to the minimal as possible at 1%. We apologize for this inconvenience! Our intentions are not to mislead in any way and feel that our original intentions for this site are still relevant.

We hold weekly fundraising events at our office in downtown Tampa.
